Artist Statement:

These images represent what it is like to be playing with the Snow app on my phone. The Snow app is a camera app where you can apply filters, makeup and adjust the size of different facial features. I play around with the filters and the bunny ear sticker and see what the difference is with and without them. As you can see, the model on the packaging has a subtly brighter complexion, slightly enlarged eyes, and sharper chin with the bunny filter (far right), compared to the one without (third picture).

I want to show that this app uses the female beauty standard of Korea, where it originated from. Their standard includes brighter complexion, larger eyes, smaller faces, appearing to look cuter and/or more feminine. Even though the changes are subtle, they make a huge difference in one’s appearance altogether.

I added a mirror with the bunny sticker to see what it is like to just have the bunny stickers and no filters. Will I still want to upload that selfie?
